| Do you have someone you love caught up in a destructive group?
Do you think a friend or a family member or a young adult in school is involved with a group that uses mind control, fraud or deceptive recruiting practices?
Who are these dangerous groups?
What is a destructive cult? How can you protect yourself, your neighbors and your family from people who prey on our children?
How do they recruit?
Destructive groups and cults use systematic manipulative techniques of mind control to get new followers. They are able to alter a person's ability to make reasonable judgements. Within just a few days they can produce noticeable changes in a person's thinking, behavior and ability to act autonomously.
How can you get information?
Who do you call for help?
The Cult Information Service, Inc. is a non-profit self-help organization. It uses a telephone handshake network to get information and help to people quickly.
It is important to note that the Cult Information Service limits its concerns about destructive groups to unethical or illegal practices. It does not pass judgement on doctrine or beliefs.
The Cult Information Service is dedicated to education, information and assistance to families and individuals adversely affected by coercive persuasion, mind abuse and thought reform. The phone number to call for help is (201) 833-1212.
A guide to the parents of children captured by destructive cults:
Record all names, addresses, phone numbers of persons known to be associated in any way with your child's activities. Maintain a written chronology of events associated with your child's activities related to the group.
Answer all communications from your child in sincere, firm but unrecriminating language.
Collect related items from newspapers, magazines and other sources.
Keep your cool. Avoid threats. Be firm but remain open for communication at all times.
File a written complaint with the District Attorney, County Prosecutor and other public officials.
Don't send money to your child or to the group. Without economic support the group cannot survive.
Don't give original documents to anyone unless required by law. Give copies only.
Don't be persuaded by "professionals" to spend large amounts of money for treatments or legal action, until you have verified their credentials and qualifications for handling your problem.
Don't give up. Remember your child is a product of your love, training, heredity and home environment. These influences can never be permanently eliminated by any technique.
Don't feel guilty or alone. This is a common problem. It affects families of all religious, economic and family backgrounds.
